Dhrupad, the ancient and sublime vocal tradition of Hindustani classical music, offers more than a captivating performance — it is a portal to a profound inner world. This millennia-old art form weaves a tapestry of serenity, contemplation, and ecstasy. Each meticulously crafted note is an invitation to connect with a sense of peace and explore the depths of your being.

Witness a Living Legend

Born in Ujjain in 1966, Pt. Uday Bhawalkar is among the foremost living exponents of Dhrupad — the oldest surviving form of Hindustani classical vocal music. He spent over a decade immersed in the traditional guru-shishya parampara under the towering Dagar brothers, Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, and sings in their Dagarvani style. Honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2021) and the Kumar Gandharva Samman, he today teaches at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata while performing across the world from his base in Pune.

He is accompanied by Sri Pratap Awad on the pakhawaj — the double-headed, barrel-shaped drum that traditionally partners Dhrupad — and by his senior disciple Sri Kirit Singh. Together they create a sound that is both meditative and deeply moving.

Two Ways to Attend

Full immersion — attend the July 5 concert, then deepen the experience with the three-day workshop (July 6, 7, 8). Step by step, even without prior experience, you’ll learn the core elements of the Dhrupad sound: voice, syllables, tonal modulation, rhythm, breath control, and the traditional approach to unfolding a raga. By the workshop’s end, you’ll have sung a full raga yourself.

Concert only — an intimate recital. Close your eyes and allow yourself to be carried on a meditative journey through an ancient raga, each note imbued with centuries of tradition.
