Hindustani Slide Guitar
Rhitom Sarkar Live — Raga, Resonance & the Sliding String
Join us for an intimate, living-room concert featuring one of Hindustani classical music’s most distinctive voices. This is a “pin-drop” kind of evening — a rare chance to experience the depth and nuance of Indian classical music from just a few feet away, in the warmth of a private home.
The Artists
Rhitom Sarkar leads the evening on the Hindustani classical slide guitar — a guitar laid flat and played with a sliding bar, coaxed into the liquid, vocal-like glides of Indian raga. He began learning at the age of nine under Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya, the celebrated pioneer of Indian slide guitar, studying with him for a decade before continuing his training with other masters. His instrument sits in the sonic space between a sitar’s resonance and a steel guitar’s soulful sustain.
He is joined by Debu Nayak on tabla — whose intricate finger-work creates a dynamic, living dialogue with the sliding tones of the guitar.
Why This Is Special
Experience meend — the gliding, microtonal shifts that mimic the human voice. There is no stage and there are no barriers; just the natural resonance of the instruments in a quiet room. Capacity is strictly limited to preserve an intimate, personal connection between the performers and the room.
